Summer Art Camp Sign up for the City of Glendale Summer Art Camp 2012!
The Glendale Public Art Program, A Division of Parks, Recreation & Library Services, is excited to present Summer Art Camp 2012. This year’s camp has been expanded to 16 workshops offered at two locations! Sixteen teaching artists will be engaging youth from 6-13 in a wide variety of art activities. Each of the 4 day workshops are $20 and will take place at either the Sahauro Ranch Park Fruit Packing Shed, 9802 N.59th Ave., or at the Rose Lane Recreation Center, 5003 W. Winners of the 2012 Glendale Plein Air Painting Event
This annual one-day painting event took place on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012. The event is open to any artist who paints using the Plein Air technique in oil, watercolor, acrylic or pastel. Plein Air (open air) paintings are executed outdoors and from real life. The event was hosted by the Glendale Public Art Program in conjunction with City of Glendale Office of Special Events and the Annual Glendale Chocolate Affaire. The artwork is currently on display at the Glendale Adult Center (on Brown Street just west of 59th Avenue).

The City of Glendale Public Art Program Presents: Something to Write Home About
The Glendale Public Art Program is proud to present, “Something to Write Home About,” as an interactive art element during the 2012 Glendale Jazz and Blues Festival. Under the guidance of Artist educators Gregory Sale and Angela Ellsworth, 28 ASU students enrolled in Intermedia courses at the School of Art, Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, will present a series of interactive performances and installations that will unfold over the 2 day festival. This series of diverse and engaging activities will respond to the culture of jazz and blues, while also considering the concept of home and community. New Mural Installation Happening Downtown: Connects Businesses with Artists in Centerline District
One building in downtown Glendale is getting a head-turning look thanks to a new mural that will grace the outer south wall of a longtime downtown restaurant. The mural project is part of Artwerks, a city program that is pairing business owners with local artists to enhance Glendale’s redevelopment and revitalization of the Centerline District along the Glendale Avenue corridor and was partially funded by the City of Glendale Arts Commission. The Choice is Art - Campaign for the Arts
The Choice is Art is a 4-year promotional campaign for the arts in Arizona, meant to advance the cultural conversation in Arizona, grow public understanding about the broad-spectrum benefits of arts programs and increase arts participation in Arizona communities, and fortify a privately-held arts endowment whose funds can be utilized in support of statewide arts programs. Arts and the Economy
The Glendale Arts Commission and the Glendale Library and Arts Department participated in two national studies--Arts and Economic Prosperity III, the national economic impact study of nonprofit arts organizations and their audiences and Creative Industries, a statistical mapping study of the nation's arts businesses using Dun & Bradstreet data. The studies found that arts and culture is a $6.6 million industry in Glendale and community is home to 235 arts-related businesses that employ 663 people. The studies were conducted by Americans for the Arts, a national organization serving communities across the country. Visit www.artsusa.org for more information on Americans for the Arts.
