Falls are a leading cause of injury among older adults, but many falls can be prevented with simple home safety changes, regular activity, medication review, and vision checks.

If someone falls

  1. Check for serious injury, bleeding, or head impact.

  2. Call 911 for severe pain, inability to stand, loss of consciousness, suspected head injury, chest pain, or trouble breathing.

  3. If there are no signs of serious injury and the person can move safely, help them get to a stable chair or bench and monitor them. When in doubt, seek medical advice.
