Mission

To maintain established community standards that preserve and promote the health, safety and living environment of our community and neighborhoods.

Inspection Process

Code violation cases can be created by calling our office, by submitting an online service request or proactively by the inspector.

Once a case is opened a code inspector will complete an initial inspection of the property within 3 business days. Please keep in mind this is contingent on the code inspector’s scheduled days off and holidays.

At the time of the initial inspection (visit to the property), the code inspector will determine if the property is in violation. If a violation is observed, appropriate enforcement action will be taken on the property.

Upon reinspection, the inspector may extend the timeframe for completion or issue a citation and begin the court process if necessary. Click here for more information regarding proactive inspections.

  • Maximum of four (4) Code related concerns per submitting household in a calendar week.
  • Submissions exceeding four (4) will be closed with no action. You may resubmit the following week. We recommend reviewing our code case violation map prior to submitting a report to determine whether there is already an active case for the property in question. Click here to check the map for violations.
  • Exceptions to the maximum Code related submissions guidelines include health and safety hazards such as an accessible swimming pool at an abandoned property or an open refrigerator in a front yard.

Proactive Inspections

In 2023, Code Compliance implemented a new proactive system to conduct neighborhood inspections. The system allows inspectors to travel down each city street to check for code violations. This process creates a way for Code to take a proactive approach to addressing neighborhood blight in addition to investigating complaints.

Saturday Inspections

Code Compliance inspectors perform inspections on Saturdays. Staff check the call-in line, 623-930-3610, throughout the day for complaints of violations that occur primarily on the weekends such as continuous/excessive yard sales, parking on the front yard and running a business in a residential neighborhood. Be sure to leave your contact information so an inspector can follow-up with you once an inspection is completed.

Signs in the Public Rights of Way

The placement of signs in the public rights-of-way, including medians, is an eyesore that not only causes blight but is also a safety concern and can be distracting to drivers. These signs can cause damage to city light poles or landscaped areas and create an additional expense to taxpayers when repairs of property damage and removal of the signs are needed.

The City of Glendale has a code that restricts the placement of these signs:

GCC 25-21 (b) No person shall attach or place any sign, placard, poster, banner or any other advertising device to any tree, public utility structure, traffic control device, streetlight standard, or any other device upon the public streets, alleyways, sidewalks, or rights-of-way.

Unified Development Code 35.4.306 G - Except as required by state law or otherwise permitted by this Section, signs installed or placed on public property shall be deemed illegal and shall be subject to confiscation.

If you have questions or concerns regarding the placement of these signs, please reach out to us at 623-930-3610 or enter your concern in the GlendaleOne system.
