Assignment Pay

Police Officers and Police Sergeants assigned to work any of the following special assignments (SWAT, Explosive Ordinance Disposal, K-9, Motors, Vehicular Crimes, Homicide/ Violent Crimes, Sex Crimes, Computer Forensics, Financial Crimes, Domestic Violence/Missing Persons, Special Investigations, Property, Training, CALEA/Accreditation) will be compensated an additional 3% of the hourly rate of pay.

Part -time ERU members are eligible to receive (in addition to specialty pay) an additional 5% hazardous duty pay.

Police Officers and Police Sergeants assigned to train new members of patrol or specialty units will be supplemented by payment of an additional 5% of the hourly rate of pay.

Ballistic Vest Allowance

Officers receive up to $1,500 to purchase their initial vest and every 5 years to purchase a replacement vest in addition to the annual uniform allowance.

Bilingual Incentive Pay

Those whose department determines a need exists for bilingual skills and who pass a competency examination are compensated an additional 5% of the hourly rate of pay.

Deferred Compensation

Each Sworn Represented Employee will receive an additional $175 bi-weekly, which shall be in addition to the Represented Employee’s wages, and which shall be deposited into a deferred compensation account established by the employee with the city’s deferred compensation provider(s).

Department Provided Equipment

The Glendale Police Department provides its officers with all necessary equipment needed to perform the functions of a Police Officer.

Higher Education Incentive

Any sworn represented employee who attains a degree from an accredited college or university shall receive a one-time payment of $400 for an Associate’s degree, $800 for a Bachelor’s degree, and $1,200 for a Master’s degree.

Medical Evaluations

Each sworn represented employee will be provided with a physical examination for preventative health measures. Each employee will be eligible for a physical examination once every 24 months, unless the employee is over 40 years of age and then it will be every 18 months.

Shift Differential Pay

  • $0.80/hr when their swing shift begins between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
  • $1.00/hr when their graveyard shift begins between 5:01 p.m. and 4:59 a.m.

Shift differential pay applies to all the hours worked, not just the hours during covered periods.

Special Safety Equipment

Sworn represented employees will receive $1,200 per year for safety equipment paid in semi-annual payments.

Standard Uniform Allowance

Sworn represented employees will receive $1,200 per year for laundering and maintenance of their uniforms paid in semi-annual payments.

Standby/Standby Court

Sworn represented employees required to be available for immediate emergency call out shall be compensated $40 per regular scheduled work day and $60 per regular nonscheduled workday. In the event the employee is called out, he/she shall be paid minimum of three hours work or the actual time worked if greater than three hours.

Succession Pay

Each sworn represented employee will receive semi-annual payments for complete fiscal years of service to the City of Glendale Police Department after year three.

4/10 Hour Work Schedule

Patrol officers work 4 days a week for 10 hours each shift.
