July is National Park and Recreation Month, which means the city of Glendale is ramping up with fun and FREE events. The events are open to anyone, Glendale residents or not, to enjoy!

There are many great visual opportunities for live segments, including people making family-themed large magnets at Sahuaro Ranch Park, adults playing games, ascending rock-climbing walls and creating crafts with their children during the Family Play Dates, people mingling with park rangers and trying to win prizes in city parks, and adults of all ages exploring the equipment, programs and classes at the Glendale Adult Center.

Here are some of the Glendale events this month:

  • Art at the Park: From 10 a.m. to noon on July 11 relax in the air-conditioned, fruit-packing shed at Sahuaro Ranch Park (south of Brown Street between 59th and 63rd avenues) where the West Valley Arts Council will provide an instructor and all the materials needed to create heartfelt, family-themed large magnets.
  • Family Play Date: From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on July 24 explore the modern fitness equipment, sports courts, rock-climbing walls and other features, and take time to play games, create crafts, eat pizza and enter for a chance to win prizes at four centers. Bring your family to Glendale’s Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center (FRAC) at 5600 W. Union Hills Drive, the Glendale Community Center at 5401 W. Ocotillo Road, Rose Lane Community Center at 5003 W. Marlette Ave. and O’Neil Recreation Center at 6448 W. Missouri Ave.
  • Thank a Ranger Day: From 6 to 8 p.m. on July 25, visit with our friendly park rangers in the various parks, and find out how they keep Glendale’s outdoor space beautiful. You may play games with the rangers, take home cool giveaways and try your luck at winning prizes at Heroes Regional and Sahuaro Ranch parks.
  • Glendale Adult Center Open House: From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 30, anyone ages 18 and older may explore the programs, equipment and events at this expansive, welcoming facility. It’s a great center for people of all ages to get in shape, make friends and create memories.
