What is the General Plan?

The General Plan is the City of Glendale’s primary long-term policy document and serves as the overall blueprint for how the city will grow and change in the future. While the City regularly prepares other plans that focus on specific topics or areas, such as transportation, airports, or individual corridors, the General Plan brings these efforts together under one unified vision.

Arizona Revised Statute § 9-461.05 through § 9-461.07 requires general plans to be updated every 10 years to ensure their consistency with the changing needs of the community. The current General Plan was adopted in 2016.

Why does it matter?

The General Plan is used to guide the City’s decision-making on a wide range of topics, such as land use, housing, economic development, transportation, recreation, public facilities and services, and much more. As the primary policy document for the City, the General Plan is key to guiding what Glendale could be like 20 years from now. When completed, this updated General Plan will be presented for approval by the Glendale City Council, and later be put on the ballot for voter ratification.

Why should you attend?

All residents, property owners, and business owners are encouraged to be involved. The public is invited to attend this community meeting and learn about the City’s initiative to update the General Plan. Meeting participants will have an opportunity to provide input on opportunities and areas of concern. Your input is important and will help ensure that the General Plan continues to serve the needs of all citizens.
