Spring
Appointments: February 24 to March 14

Please have a list of your household hazardous waste items ready before calling Customer Service at 623-930-2660 to make an appointment. Program is not for commercial use (apartment, condos, town homes, mobile home park).
Collection Tips
- All items should be in their original containers and must be clearly marked to identify their contents (latex paint etc.)
- Place items in boxes by category and mark box HHW.
- Place out by 6am by the front of garage door or car port on your scheduled HHW collection day.
- Limit 20 gallons on paints and liquids.
- No single container may be larger than 5-gallons.
Approved items
These items are acceptable and will be collected in Glendale’s Household Hazardous Waste Collections:
- Aerosol Cans
- Antifreeze and automotive products, including car batteries, oil and filters
- Fire Extinguishers
- Gasoline - needs to be in a certified gas container that will not be returned
- Household cleaners
- Light bulbs can be placed in a labeled box. CFL’s only no florescent tubes.
- Mercury
- Motor Oil – would like to have in original containers if not place in a sturdy container (laundry detergent bottles, milk jugs) with a secure lid
- Oil-based paint
- Paint – in secured container, if paint is dried up and rock solid it can be bagged and tied disposing in refuse container
- Pesticides / Insecticides
- Pool chemicals
- Propane Tanks- full or empty, large or small, we will take
Non-Approved items
These items are not acceptable and will not be collected in Glendale’s Household Hazardous Waste Collections:
- Ammunition or Explosives
- Appliances
- Electronics
- Medical waste of any kind
- Landscape waste
- Radioactive Materials
- Tires
It is important to always read the label to determine the dangers. Look for words like flammable, corrosive, toxic and Handle with Care.
How Do I Dispose of...
Ammunition
For ammunition disposal please call the non-emergency City of Glendale Police Department at 623-930-3000 and ask for disposal.
Appliances
When replacing/purchasing new appliances, make arrangements with the store for pick up of your old appliances.
Haul them to the Glendale Landfill or place out curbside on your scheduled bulk trash collection week. Refrigerators must be scheduled for pick up by calling Customer Service at 623-930-2660. There is a $25 fee added to your utility/water bill to dispose of the Freon per refrigerator.
Batteries
Alkaline and carbon-zinc batteries are non-hazardous. Batteries in sizes A, AA, AAA, C and D should be bagged, tied and placed in your garbage container.
Rechargeable batteries that are nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd), nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH), lithium ion (Li-ion), or small, sealed lead batteries, weighing less than two pounds can be recycled at an HHW event or battery vendor.
Electronics
Glendale residents can bring both working and non-working electronics (E-waste) to the Glendale Landfill during regular operating hours free of charge. Call Glendale Landfill at (623) 930-4727 for details.
Explosives
If you find any item that may be explosive, do not handle it! Call 911
Prescriptions Drugs
Do not flush.
Take unused, unneeded or expired prescription drugs out of their original containers and throw the containers in the trash. Mix prescription drugs with an undesirable substance, such as used coffee grounds or kitty litter, and put them in impermeable, nondescript containers, such as empty cans or sealable bags, then throw out in the regular garbage. Radioactive Material
Call the ADEQ Emergency Response Unit during normal business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at (602) 771-4163
In case of an emergency (spills, accidents, discharges) call (602) 390-7894 as soon as possible.
Sharps or Syringes
We do not collect sharps/syringes at our HHW events. Please download and review this pamphlet(PDF, 958KB).
Tires
When purchasing new tires, make arrangements with the store to take your old tires; there may be a nominal fee.
