Landfill

The City of Glendale Municipal Landfill is located at 11480 W. Glendale Avenue, on the north side of the road. The landfill is a responsible, progressive and environmentally sound long-term solution to solid waste management essential to the future health, welfare, and prosperity of Glendale residents. The Glendale Municipal Landfill and Materials Recycling Transfer Facility serves approximately 58,000 Glendale households and many surrounding communities. The landfill receives approximately 440,000 tons of refuse annually and the transfer facility processes approximately 13,000 tons of recyclables annually. The landfill has Intergovernmental Agreements (IGA’s) in place with Avondale, Goodyear, Luke Air Force Base, Phoenix, and Peoria.

• Non-liquid municipal solid waste - garbage, trash, and other wastes from households, commercial or industrial facilities. Unwashed and sealed drums are prohibited.
• Construction debris from demolition and construction activities.
• Yard Clippings - grass, leaves, trees.
• Animals - pets only.
• Pesticide containers (punctured and rinsed at least three (3) times).
• Non-infectious medical waste- residents must place medical sharps into a hard plastic container and place container into a dark plastic bag before disposing. Autoclaved sickroom waste - all sickroom waste must have supporting documentation. (No hypodermic needles or other sharp objects from hospitals, clinics, laboratories, dentist, etc.)
• Household hazardous waste (HHW): Limited to hazardous waste from households. This includes paint & stains, antifreeze, motor oil, filters & other automotive fluids, pool chemicals, household chemicals & pesticides. ALL liquids MUST be contained in the original container and/or marked to identify its contents).
• Flammable liquids will be accepted from residential customers only. Commercial customers may not dispose of any flammable liquids.
• Travel trailers, boats, and motorcycles will be accepted under the following conditions: You must present a clear title, free of liens, and a matching driver’s license. All fluids must be removed, and all propane tanks must be empty.
• Empty propane tanks.

• Automobiles - including trucks, bodies, and frames.
• Batteries and tires.
• Asbestos - friable and non-friable.
• Septage - pumpage from septic tanks.
• Petroleum contaminated soil.
• Industrial and commercial process wastes - liquid and solids.
• Hazardous waste – household hazardous waste from commercial haulers.
• Incinerator ash.
• Infectious medical waste - including waste blood, serum, plasma, blood products, contaminated hypodermic needles, syringes, scalpel blades, or sharps from hospitals, clinics, laboratories, dentist, etc.

Gate Rate

The disposal rate is $55.58 per ton. Minimum fee per use is $50.58.

Glendale Residents

To qualify as a Glendale Resident, and receive the reduced rate,

• the single-family home or duplex must be within the City of Glendale city limits and receive residential sanitation services provided by the City of Glendale.
  • Please note: Apartment complexes, mobile home parks and other housing do not qualify for reduced rates. County islands with a Glendale address also do not qualify for the reduced rate.
• the resident must provide proof of residency by providing a current utility bill and picture identification.

Once per month, Glendale residents may bring one load containing up to 2,000 pounds of refuse generated from your residential property to the Glendale Landfill for disposal free of charge. Any weight over 2,000 pounds, or any additional loads disposed of at the Glendale Landfill during that month will be charged at the current applicable rate of $15.79 per ton.

• Example: A resident delivering 1,200 pounds on a visit to the landfill would not be charged for disposal; however, a resident delivering 2,200 pounds on a visit to the landfill would be charged $15.79 per ton for the 200 pounds—$1.58 exceeding the 2,000 pound fee waiver limit.

The Glendale Landfill will accept up to 5 residential car or truck tires from Glendale residents at no charge. The tire must be removed from the rim.

Hard to handle waste $155.58 per ton. Items measuring four feet long or two feet in diameter may be charged at this rate. This specifically includes stumps, trees, concrete and other solid items.

Refrigerant Components $25.00 per unit. Items such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioning units and water coolers contain refrigerant. The refrigerant evacuation fee is charged at the cost recovery rate per unit and subject to change based on market conditions.

Recycling Drop-Off Customers can drop off recyclables within a designated area at the Glendale Municipal Landfill site. Paper, cans, plastic containers, cardboard boxes and glass bottles are collected at the recycling drop-off area. These items are accepted at no cost. Once you enter the Landfill, you will see blue signs directing where the drop-off location is. When you enter our facility from Glendale Avenue, stay to the right and drive north. Once you pass the scale house, move into the far-left lane. At the stop sign you will continue to follow the blue signs, directing you towards the left and down the hill where you will see three blue recycling bins for recyclable materials.

• Stereo Equipment
• Wire, cables, power strips, electrical cords, etc.

NO TVS, PRINTERS OR APPLIANCES WILL BE ACCEPTED.
