As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day and America250, we reflect on an inspiring story of patriotism that began here in Glendale.
Driven only by the love for his country, Jerry P. Weiers, who also happens to serve as Glendale’s Mayor, set out on a personal eight-year journey traveling across the United States of America with one mission in mind: to fly a locally made American flag over each U.S. Capitol.
What is now known as the Great American Flag Tour, this journey highlighted the timeless symbol of freedom, unity, and the ideals that bind us together as Americans. As our Nation gets ready to celebrate our 250th Birthday, this story reminds us that America’s strength has always come from the patriotism and dedication of everyday citizens who cherish the country they call home!
