What To Expect

Your Meter Replacement Made Simple.

The City of Glendale’s Water Services Department is upgrading every water meter in the city with new metering technology. The work is being done by the city’s contractor, Metering Services Inc. (MSI). Most installations take approximately 30 minutes, and you do not need to be home.

Here’s what to expect from start to finish.

How You Will be Notified

All residential customers will receive a postcard from the city about a month before the installation takes place. The postcard confirms your property is scheduled for meter replacement and provides details on what to expect on installation day.

For commercial water utility accounts, MSI personnel will contact you directly to schedule an appointment to replace your water meter.

Getting Ready

Once your area is scheduled, there are a few things you can do to make installation day quick and easy:

  • Keep your meter accessible in the weeks leading up to your installation date.
  • Trim landscaping that may be growing over the meter box.
  • Move parked vehicles off  the meter box.
  • Plan for pets and secure them on installation day.
  • If your meter is behind a locked gate, please leave the gate unlocked on installation day so the installer can access your meter.

On Installation Day

MSI will perform the installations Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.. They will arrive in a contractor vehicle marked with the city of Glendale logo, wearing visible identification, and knock or ring the doorbell to let you know they’ve arrived.

Crew members will never ask to enter your home.

What Happens During the Installation

Each installation follows the same simple process. The installer will perform the following:

  1. Photograph the area around the meter before the installation.

  2. Temporarily shut off your water service.

  3. Replace your old meter with the new electronic water meter.

  4. Restore your water service. Whenever possible, the installer will use an outdoor hose spigot to release any air trapped in the line.

  5. Photograph the condition of the area around the meter after installation and clean up any dirt and tools.

  6. Leave a door hanger to inform you whether the water meter replacement was complete or if you need to call the Project Hotline.
