Trash Collection Moved Curbside

Beginning Jan 1, 2022, some Glendale residents will see some changes in their trash collection. Refuse and bulk trash will be moved out of many alleys and on to the streets in front of people's homes. Residents will be notified by the city if there is a change to their service.

The City of Glendale’s Solid Waste Division provides residential garbage and recycling collection weekly.

Where are my services?

Garbage and recycling are picked up on the same day.

Days

Preparation

  • Bag and tie all garbage.
  • Recycling should be loose (not bagged), relatively clean, and dry.
  • Do not place these hazardous items in your trash container.
  • Other items that should not be placed in your garbage or recycling containers include appliances, furniture, tires, construction debris, dirt, rock, gravel, large tree limbs, and hot ashes/coals.
  • Don’t overfill your containers. The lids should be closed when placed for collection. Trash placed outside or beside the containers will not be collected.

Thank you

Bin Placement

  • Make sure your container is facing forward (wheels in the curb area). Special exceptions guidelines(PDF, 214KB)
  • Residential trash and recycling is collected between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • Place trash and recycling containers 3 feet apart and 10 feet away from parked vehicles for better service.

Collection Tips

  • To ensure collection service is not interrupted, place your container at the curb after 5 p.m. the evening before your collection day or by 6 a.m. on your collection day. Put away your container by 6 a.m. the day following collection.
  • Though it may seem that the collection truck arrives about the same time every week, there is no specific scheduled time for trash or recycling containers to be emptied. Time of collection varies due to truck load capacity, traffic, weather, route changes, road construction, and street or utility maintenance.
  • Missed collection is verified by reviewing GPS route tracking, verifying the stops made by a collection truck, and street container inspections.

Rates

$29.75 per household per month provides the following base services:

  • On-route refuse collection service once per week for one 95-gallon refuse container.
  • On-route curbside recycling service once per week for one 95-gallon recycling container.
  • On-route monthly loose trash collection.
  • City scheduled inspections as needed.
  • Repair or replacement of damaged containers (due to normal usage).
  • Fee waiver at the Landfill for loads of 2,000 pounds or less (once per month).
  • Free electronics recycling at the Landfill.

Additional Containers

Each single-family residence is assigned one garbage container and one recycling container. Typically, half of most household waste is recyclable, and the need for extra garbage capacity can be minimized or eliminated by recycling.

Additional refuse containers can be requested by the resident for an additional $15.75 per container per month. (Prior to 2000, residents could purchase additional containers. Those containers that residents purchased through this program are not assessed the $15.75 fee. The program has been discontinued, but purchased containers may be used until they are no longer serviceable.) The additional container(s) is serviced on the same day as curbside collection.

To order an additional container contact the Solid Waste Department at (623) 930-2660.

Alley Access Control Program

The Alley Access Control Program is for residential alleys that have solid waste services as a means to help manage several challenges such as: health and safety issues from materials being dumped in the alley, illegally dumped material interfering with operations in the alley, illegal activity and the difficulty of enforcement due to the limited traffic and visibility because of the type of materials dumped.

For more information and requirements of the program, review this Alley Access Control document(DOCX, 2MB) or contact the Solid Waste Department at 623-930-2660.
