The Great American Flag Tour
The Flag of the United States of America has been a symbol of strength and unity, pride and inspiration for millions of American citizens. And the American flag continues to be one of the nation’s most widely recognized icons, with a rich and evolutionary history. Since that first Congressional Act establishing an official flag in 1777, the American flag has been displayed around the world and beyond.
The first time the American flag was flown overseas was in Libya, over Fort Derne, on the shores of Tripoli in 1805. And in 1909, the American flag was placed at the North Pole. In 1963, the American flag was proudly placed on top of Mount Everest. Then in July 1969, the flag of the United States was flown in space, when Neil Armstrong placed it on the moon.
The initiative aimed to foster national pride and honor America's rich history, bright future, and the dedication of its Veterans. As part of this effort, a locally made American flag was flown at all U.S. State Capitols, serving as a powerful symbol of unity and patriotism.
In anticipation of the 250th birthday of the United States, on July 4, 2026, I was able to complete my seven-year journey across the U.S., as Ole' Glory flew at every state capitol in the U.S.A., and in San Juan, Puerto Rico (a U.S. Territory). The tour officially came to an end on Saturday, October 25 outside of the Arizona State Capitol.
With the tour officially complete, my goal is to build and offer a user-friendly exhibit that Arizona cities may request to have displayed for any patriotic event.
