Interns
The Glendale Police Department is thrilled to offer an Internship program that is designed to develop valuable work experience to increase career objectives through hands-on learning experiences. Our internship program is centered around students and separating military personnel (Skill Bridge) to observe and participate in several departments that will lead to possible sworn and non-sworn career paths. We offer internship opportunities twice a year, Spring (January - May) and Fall (August - December). Currently, we do not offer Summer internship placements.
We are currently accepting applications for the Spring 2026 Session. The deadline to aply for the Spring 2026 session will be Friday, September 26,2025.
Intern Requirements
Due to the sensitive nature of information and facilities that our interns are exposed to, all applicants are required to successfully complete the following steps for placement.
Application Submission
We currently accepting applications for our Spring 2026 placement. The deadline to submit the application will be Friday, September 26, 2025. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered for placement.
- Must be at least 18 years old and have graduated high school to apply.
- Applications completed Electronically will not be accepted!

Selection Committee
- All applications received by the deadline will move onto our Selection Committee for initial review for fingerprint and background next steps.
- Applications chosen by our Selection Committee will be contacted by the Glendale Police Department Volunteer Program Coordinator with instructions to schedule your fingerprint appointment. Notifications will be sent October 6, 2025.
- The selection committee reviews all submitted applications the week after the deadline closes. The application review will take place September 29, 2025 - October 2, 2025.
Fingerprints
- If selected to move forward in the process, applicants will be contacted to schedule a fingerprint appointment. This process is completed during a two-week period. This will take place between October 13, 2025 - October 23, 2025.
- Once applicants have completed the fingerprint appointment, applications will be moved into the background phase.
- Backgrounds can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks to be completed.
Acceptance
- Applicants who pass the background process and have command approval will be notified by Volunteer Program Coordinator, Jamie Castiglione of their acceptance via email.
- Part of the acceptance process, applicants will be required to provide their availability for the internship placement. Instructions will be provided during the notification.
- Interns will be provided orientation information when they are notified of their acceptance. Applicants will be required to accept or decline the internship placement at the time of notification.
- The Glendale Police Department Internship program is an unpaid internship; however, it can lead to college credit.
- Internship hours can range from 4-11 hours a week for the duration of the internship (15-16 weeks). This will be determined based on intern availability and if an intern is needing required hours.
Opportunities
Some opportunities may or may not be available at the time of your internship placement and/or change prior to placement or after placement based on department needs.
At this time intern opportunities are Not available on nights and weekends. Hours must be completed during operating hours to the public which is Monday - Friday from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.
SkillBridge Partnership
The Glendale Police Department is an employee partner with the Arizona Coalition for Military Families, Be Connected. We have partnered with them to be apart of the Skill Bridge program and have successfully had several service members participate in the Skill Bridge internship program and have successfully hired these interns.

Detention / City Jail
Volunteers will work with the Glendale Detention Officers to assist with completing paperwork, filing, and answering phones. Volunteers will need to be able to work within specific guidelines and maintain confidentiality.
Property and Evidence
Interns will learn to ensure proper receipt, documentation, storage, and disposal of property and evidence. Interns will need to maintain confidentiality given the sensitive nature to this department and learn the best practices to uphold the integrity of the criminal justice system, ensuring that evidence remains secure, properly handled and legally admissible. Skillsets that are helpful in Property and Evidence include: computer skills, inventory skills, and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Disclosure
- Must be able to lift 30-50 pounds.
- The property room is very tight quarters-must be able to move freely in limited spaces.
- Should be able to read sequential numbering systems.
- Should not be allergic or have negative reactions to massive amounts of dirt, drugs, or items with rancid odors, etc.
Please note that as an intern, working in Property and Evidence, you will be exposed to possible contaminates, drug items that could cause physical harm, and other evidentiary items that are not in your normal life. You may also see people at the public window that you would not necessarily have direct contact with normally.
Forensics
Interns who are placed in our Forensic department will observe case work conducted by Forensic Scientists on both crime scenes and in the FSU laboratory. Interns will learn crime scene investigation techniques, photograph skills, laboratory skills, chemical processing and fingerprint classification and comparison.
Disclosure
- Must have completed a minimum of 12 upper division credits (major courses) in a Forensic Science program or related science field. (Please note: Forensic Psychology courses alone do not meet the required Forensic Science courses needed at this time).
- Must provide a copy of your transcripts reflecting the completed units with your intern application.
- Must possess an ability to handle unpleasant sights/sounds/and smells and an understanding that intense/disturbing subject material may be discussed.

- Maximum hours that we can accommodate is 135 hours/semester or 3 credits - please let the volunteer coordinator know if you are going to have required hours to complete for your internship placement. Failure to do so could result in hours being short.
